FiberLean Demonstration Plant

The FiberLean Demonstration Plant at Trebal, Cornwall UK comprises a full-scale microfibrillated cellulose production facility, a microfibrillated cellulose pilot plant, development and characterisation laboratories, and support functions.

FiberLean microfibrillated cellulose production facility

Full-scale Microfibrillated Cellulose Production Facility

The plant operates as a stand-alone full-scale production unit, consisting of a pulp make-down system, suitable for handling dry sheeted market pulp, two full-scale FiberLean MFC grinders, a screening system and a filter press. MFC product is available in press cake form at 20% solids. The cake product is typically packaged in 1000 kg bags. The facility can produce up to 2000 dry tonnes of MFC annually.

Microfibrillated Cellulose Pilot Plant

The pilot plant includes a development scale MFC grinder along with all the peripheral equipment necessary for production and handling of MFC. We use this facility to develop optimised MFC for specific applications and produce small-scale samples for customers and collaborators. It is also a key tool we use to develop our grinders and further our understanding of the grinding process.

Development and Characterisation Laboratories

Our laboratories are equipped for product quality control, pulp and MFC characterisation, papermaking performance evaluation, and a wide range of other end-use evaluations.
